Product Example - YouTube “How To” Demonstration Video

  • Step one in creating this content was to gather all of the necessary equipment needed to record video from multiple sources. Which included cameras, cables, wireless microphones, and lighting.

  • Step two, proving to be the most challenging part of this assignment, was to develop the various video clips used to build the final video. The video clips were created using a combination of OBS, Canon 7D Camera, GoPro, and my iPhone 13 Pro. I then imported all of the source material into iMovie for editing. Outside of creating a few short videos in OBS for previous school assignments, I had not dived into creating different scenes that included multiple views. For instance, a scene that has a picture in picture view that combines the desktop and a camera source. The next challenge was recording each video segment in one take without making any errors. As my ultimate goal was to avoid my video having a choppy feel.

  • Step three involved writing, recording and mixing the music for this video. I wanted to write something energetic for my intro music, with a touch of soul and a modern country/rock feel. So, I decided to use the chorus from an original song that I am currently working on. This arrangement uses an electric and acoustic guitar, a bass guitar, drums, piano, and an organ. The electric guitar was tracked with a Sure SM57, an AKG C414 XLS, and a Fender Blues Junior. The SM57 was just left of center and approximately 4.5 inches from the dust cap. The C414 was midway between the outer right edge of the dust cap and the right edge of the speaker. In the mix, the SM57 is used for bite and detail. While the C414 is used to add warmth and meat to the SM57 track. The acoustic guitar was recorded using a stereo pair of Aston Starlights in a spaced pair configuration. The left microphone was approximately two feet away from the source and pointed towards the 12th fret. The right microphone was approximately three feet away from the source and pointed toward the bridge/nut. The left mic captures a lot of the detail from the pic and strumming. Whereas the right mic is used to capture the tone and warmth of the guitar. The Bass guitar, piano, and organ are all virtual instruments from the Komplete 13 instrument library. Additionally, the music for this project was written, recorded, and mixed in a single day.

I am a professional pilot with fifteen plus years of aviation experience. Over the course of my career, I have logged over 6000 flight hours in both helicopters and airplanes. I have my Airline Transport Pilot rating in helicopters and my Commercial/Instrument rating in both single and multi-engine airplanes.

As a self-motivated forward thinker, I continually strive to view and approach every problem or challenge with an "out of the box" holistic point of view. While also using every challenge that I face as an opportunity to learn and grow in both my professional and personal life.

My passion for music has been deep-rooted from a very early age in my life. I have been playing drums for over 25 years and guitar for nearly 20. I do not allow myself to stagnate musically and I always look for ways to grow and stay relevant. While I love to collaborate, share and explore new ideas with other musicians and fellow singers/songwriters. My new passion has shifted into the world of recording and audio production. With this newfound passion, I have acquired an insatiable hunger for learning as much as possible about all of the various technical aspects behind creating great recordings, mixes, and producing music.
